Paris Transport

There are various modes of transportation in Paris which are grouped together in the RATP: Buses, the Metro and the RER (Regional Express Network). It is a very efficient system, which gives wide coverage of the city. A map of urban transport routes can be found at the metro stations. Tickets can be bought singly or in a book of ten. There are also discounted passes available while routes going to the airport have individual prices.

Bus

The bus system is less easy to follow than the metro but it allows you a view of the city. It runs from 07:00-20:30h.

Noctambus is a night bus service from 01:00-05:30h 7 days a week, every hour. It has 18 lines offering a service within a 30km radius of Paris. A special ticket is needed for this bus.

Metro and RER

The Metro has 15 lines which cover the capital and the inner suburbs from 05:30-00:30h.

The 4 lines of the RER serve the outer stations among which are the two airports Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and Orly.

Train

The Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer (SNCF) is the French national railway company, which in includes both the Corail (express or omnibus) trains and the TGV high speed trains.

Taxi

The price is indicated on the meter and there is usually a minimum charge. It is quite difficult to find a taxi at night in the suburbs, so plan ahead.
